Hello students and parents - I am very excited to be your teacher this year!

For many of you, we have never met before so I would like to share a little bit of information about myself. My name is Jonah Lather and I have spent many hours in District 200 schools.

In 2007, after spending time volunteering in schools, I decided to pursue my Masters Degree in Teaching. I attended classes at night while working by day as a teaching assistant. I graduated from Aurora University in 2009. That Fall, I was lucky enough to be hired to teach 3rd grade at Bower Elementary in Warrenville. In 2010, I joined the 4th-grade teaching team at Pleasant Hill Elementary and I taught there for 9 years. In 2019, I moved back to Bower as a 5th grade teacher. In 2020 I was part of the CUSD200 Virtual Academy teaching 5th grade. This year, I am very excited to be a part of your child’s (in person) education!

Sincerely,

Jonah Lather

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

Q. How many students are in our class?

A. At the moment we have 23 students in 5L.

Q. What’s the deal with Chromebooks?

A. Please make sure to charge your Chromebook at home each evening. You may leave the power cord and brick there. Bring your charged Chromebook each day for school. Bring your Chromebook home each night.

Q. Should I email the teacher?

A. Yes, you should! This is an anxious and different time (I’d say unprecedented but I think we’re all over that?). Our communication is absolutely the key to success. Your concerns are real concerns even when they feel like they might be silly or small. You will not be “bothering” me. This is my job. I’m here for you and your child. I appreciate and rely on your feedback and information.

Q. When is curriculum night?

A. Virtual Curriculum night is slated for Thursday, September 2nd.

Q. How can I get more information about specials, assignments, etc?

A. www.mrlather.com *Please note that I’m in the process of updating!*
