All golfers (including incoming freshmen) will be strongly encouraged to read Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf. This book serves as the foundation of a proper golf swing and is a great starting point for young golfers as well as a constant reminder for more experienced ones. Click here for a slide presentation of each chapter (work in progress).
The lessons (written in 1957) have stood the test of time and include:
The Grip
Stance and Posture
The First Part of the Swing
The Second Part of the Swing (Part II)
Summary & Review
Do not rush through the lessons! Take your time and always have a club with you to practice what you are reading. It might help you to watch this video of Ben Hogan's swing to see what he is writing about. Coaches will discuss and reinforce these lessons throughout the season. The basic fundamentals taught by Mr. Hogan can be used along with lessons taken with local professionals today.
It is our intention, as a program, to give each golfer a classic understanding and approach to the game as well as a swing that can be repeated while under pressure.
Paperback copies of Ben Hogan's Five Lessons available on Amazon for under $10.
Arrowhead Golf Club is the Falcon's official home course. We play most of our home matches at this beautiful course in the fall. We also hold tryouts here. All prospective members of the golf team are encouraged to play here as much as possible over the summer. We usually play on the West and South courses but we play on the East once in a while as well.
Klein Creek Golf Club is in the Falcon's backyard. The KC staff has always helped out the Falcons during the season. We have a few practices here in the fall and the newly renovated course began hosting the Wheaton Cup in 2020.
Bartlett Hills GC is where the varsity and frosh / soph teams play the DuKane Conference Tournament at the end of the season. If you have never played it, this course has some tricky holes. Playing it a few times over the summer is always a good idea!
The Den in Bloomington is home to the IHSA 3A State Tournament. Every team starts the season with the goal to make it there in October. Whether as a team or an individual, only the best get to go. Only varsity plays the Den where the weather and the course are always a challenge.
