Three key features to teach speaking
Paulo Torres | BRAZ-TESOL
WORKSHOP | Best practice - Speaking - Learner training
What should be the key features of a speaking activity? Helping students get the most out of speaking activities is not always an easy task. Teachers often say that students are reluctant to work on speaking activities or talk very little during these activities. This workshop proposes three key features to teach speaking. I will explain these features and we will analyse sample activities to see if they have the features. Suggestions on how to change the ones which do not have them will be given. The workshop will end with some reflection on speaking, summing up, and questions. Participants will leave with handy tips.

Love at the seat of teaching and learning
João Paixão | Cultura Inglesa
WORKSHOP | Best practices - Classroom management - Metacognition
In the pursuit of creating a positive and impactful learning environment, this workshop explores a teaching mindset centered on love. Drawing inspiration from Bell Hooks' perspective on "love as action", this workshop integrates elements of affection, respect, recognition, commitment, trust, care, and open communication into pedagogy. Practical strategies, including effective feedback, compassionate redirection of misbehavior, and fostering metacognitive skills, are presented to guide educators in implementing this love-centered approach, promoting holistic student development and collaboration in the classroom.
