Using TikTok and nanolearning to enhance interdisciplinarity in ELT
Alex Tamulis | Macmillan Education
MINICOURSE | Best practices - Digital literacy - Nanolearning
As educators, we recognise the challenge of engaging students in language learning while fostering their interest in other academic disciplines. By incorporating TikTok-inspired video techniques, we can tap into the digital world that captivates learners' attention. Nanolearning, with its focus on bite-sized content, provides an ideal platform for delivering educational material in an accessible and engaging manner. We will also discuss developing content that aligns with curriculum objectives, while keeping it exciting and relevant for students.

Swap shop: Collaborative learning
Rafael Rodrigues | Cultura Inglesa
SWAP SHOP | Collaborative learning - Discussion - Practical takeaways
How about sharing your insights and queries with your colleagues in an informal, cozy way - no prep required? That's the idea of the Swap Shops, where you can speak for up to 5 minutes about something you've tried out in class, an experiment or research you're carrying out, or even a challenging student you could use some help with. Under the guidance of a mediator, you'll talk, listen, discuss and organise your ideas and insights, leaving the session with practical takeaways for quick implementation. Interested? So see you there!
COFFEE BREAK & SPONSORS' LOUNGE

Learning to succeed through assessment for learning
Silvia Caldas | Oxford University Press
WORKSHOP | Assessment - AfL - Learning evidence
Although Assessment for Learning (AfL) is described as “informally monitoring progress” (Boyd et al, 2019), can we carry it out on the spur of the moment? Hardly! Planning how and when to collect evidence of learning is extremely important to succeed using this tool. In this workshop, we will talk about AfL, experiment with planning tools such as backward design, the four-dimensional feedback, and the use of rubrics, look at samples of portfolios, self-assessment, peer assessment, reflective diaries and (why not?) even tests. We will also look at inquiry-based learning and project-based learning and discuss why these active learning approaches work so well alongside AfL.
