D. Dual Participation.
American Legion Baseball players or teams may participate in other amateur baseball programs; however, the team manager and player must obtain written approval from the department baseball chairman prior to participating in the event and/or tournament. The use of National Form #6 is strongly recommended and is available online at baseball.legion.org.
POINT OF EMPHASIS:
The American Legion believes team loyalty is a key ingredient for any team sport. Dual participation shall no way interfere with a player’s responsibility to his American Legion Baseball team. Once department championship tournament play has begun, the department baseball chairman cannot grant permission to participate in other baseball events, baseball tournaments, exhibition games, showcases or combines. Any player missing any game of an American Legion national tournament because he participated in an another baseball event, exhibition game, showcase or combine shall be ineligible for post-season tournament play.
CLARIFICATION:
Players attending college orientation workouts may be granted an exception on a case-by-case basis, with proper documentation. Prior written approval from the department chairman or national tournament director is required.
