Allow adult students to choose how they want to be assessed. First of all, of course, students should learn about the different types of assessments and, from then on, be able to choose how they feel more comfortable to be assessed. It could be the way we have been doing the past few years or based on students’ daily performance. This is something new that will take some time to be implemented, but it’s worth giving it a try.
We have taken the first step towards this new mindset. Now, it is time to adapt our rules and guidelines to the scenario we aim to present to our students. First of all, the managerial staff needs more autonomy, empowerment, for they are the ones dealing with students’, parents’, and teachers’ needs on a daily basis. Finally, managers should all evaluate how much innovation should be put into practice, after all, in order to keep our standards.

Students decide on which areas they would like to be assessed. The system would be scaffolded by the teacher. Students should participate in a student-centered collaborative assessment system. They should decide how they are going to be assessed and the weights associated. Also they couls choose how many and what: writing, listening, etc.
