The physical space directly impacts people's moods and dispositons, and the experiences that take place in it. Interactions among people and engagement with the environment contribute to new, better, and memorable learning experiences.
Teachers would be able to see new possibilities in their teaching and new student interaction patterns and lesson dynamics. We need to break out of the traditional semi-circle of desks, board/screen on the front. It's time we think about a major remodelling of our classroom furniture, spaces, equipment, and overall disposition, also keeping in mind how those features will impact the human experiences, which behaviors they might elicit from teachers and students.
The core of the 8 elements is that classrooms need to be learner-focussed. This project idea addresses an infrastructural need, a condition without which unique learning experiences might not be as easily facilitated. If we think about how the 8 elements of today's classroom articulate with this project idea, the following aspects come to mind:
