Please explain how your past personal and professional experience make you a quality candidate for the position for which you are applying.

My experiences in education span districts in large urban areas, smaller, economically disadvantaged districts, and small, rural districts. I have been fortunate to become experienced in the process of involving all stakeholders in the transformation of a district and a community to embrace an inspired vision. I know that relationships are key to the success of a campus, district, or community.

Describe how you will ensure sensitivity to racial, cultural, religious, and ethnic differences in your position.

An individual can not be sensitive to anything they do not see, learn about, and respect. As a team, we must admire the differences in race, culture, religion, and ethnicities, learn all we can about what makes us different and celebrate those differences. What is not helpful is pretending that differences do not exist.

What are your three most important reasons for wanting to work in the school district?

1. I strongly desire employment in a district where every staff member, students, and ALL stakeholders are a part of a team working towards fulfillment of the districts mission and vision.

2. I admire the reputation and legacy of the school district.

3. I appreciate the opportunity to have a profound impact in the lives of students and families.

What personal characteristics define an excellent administrator?

The personal characteristics that define an excellent administrator are generous, humble, wise, strong ethics, dynamic and magnetic personality, and a focused dedication to providing opportunities and experiences for students. If it CAN be done, an excellent administrator will make it happen.

From your point of view, how important is technology in education? What technology-related skills can you contribute to a school district?

It is so important for those of us in education to develop a meaningful and relevant use of technology in education because it is critical to the development of our future workforce. Without a doubt, when used properly, technology can enhance the learning environment for all students. However, I believe that learning the safe and proper use of available technology, including learning how to connect it to staff members in order to maximize human capital, is a skill that is needed in almost all industries.

The use of technology in education is directly related to a portion of my educational philosophy. I firmly believe that the current generation of students need to understand why their learning is critical to what their life will look like as an adult. K-12 education should be about preparing students to be a successful adult in both their personal life and in a chosen career field.

I have expert level knowledge about a number of learning management systems including Canvas LMS, Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Apple for Education and Google for Education. I consider educational technology and establishing a positive social media presence to be one of my strongest abilities.

Describe how you will ensure sensitivity to racial, cultural, religious, and ethnic differences in your position.

I believe staff and students under my leadership will develop sensitivity to different culture, religion, and ethnicity by celebrating the diversity. We can not be sensitive to what we do not understand. We can not understand anything that we do not first recognize as being different from our own. Sensitivity does not mean that we ignore the cultural differences among a group of people. Sensitivity means that we understand how important an individuals culture is to them. We should learn all we can about it and celebrate it.

The values of school district speak directly to my philosophy of education. Believing that EVERY student can learn and deserve our personal best every single day is crucial to providing students with an endless opportunity to experience success. Additionally, I want to work for a school district that recognizes the importance of diversity and celebrates the uniqueness of our community and future workforce. Finally, the vision of the district, "reaching the future by driving excellence, one student at a time" should not be mistaken for a small task. "One student at a time", is the portion of that statement that deserves attention. Ensuring that we examine each, individual student's needs and help them make a connection between what they learn now and how they will live later is, in my opinion, one of the most important tasks we have as educators and administrators.
