Calling all future scientists, engineers, and mathematicians!

Teacher Orientation 9/12/23

District Judging Process REQUIRED

The annual Monterey County Science & Engineering Fair showcases Middle School and High School students in Monterey County who will become future scientists, technology experts, engineers, and mathematicians. This competition celebrates achievement by students in grades 6th - 12th, who are supported by their families, teachers, and schools to develop scientific practices.

The 2023-2024 Monterey County Science & Engineering Fair will be hybrid this year on Saturday, March 23rd 2024.  Projects will be judged virtually, as was the 2022-23 Fair, which was highly successful. Students will be uploading their digital science notebooks, images, video presentation, etc. for asynchronous judging. Top projects in each category will be invited to the showcase and final judging in March 2024. If your project was selected to showcase at the County Fair, you will need to prepare a presentation board. An easy way to do this is by printing your digital poster. Every tri-fold and/or poster needs to follow the CSEF and ISEF guidelines, doing this will make it easier if you are considered to be a finalist to move on to the CA State Science Fair and/or the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). All science project boards need to be designed as a stand alone structure.

The fair is open to projects in junior (6th - 8th grade) and senior (9th - 12th grade) divisions in multiple areas of study. Fair participants may include public, private, parochial and home schools in Monterey County.

As of 2023, all districts must hold a judging process to select the top projects for the Monterey County Science & Engineering Fair. Each district will be allowed to submit a certain number of projects based on their enrollment.

Every participating school/district must have at least one school official to be a student mentor. Mentors will provide a list of eligible projects and students to the county office by January 27th, 2024.

*Hard deadline on dates for submitting protocols. Any late submissions will disqualify projects.*
