Ellie Norvitch
In wake of the special election for next semester’s Student Government Association Vice President, congratulations are in order for freshman Ellie Norvitch. Norvitch will take over for current Vice President Briana Hastings in this coming Spring semester, and there will be an additional election in March of 2025 to elect a Vice President for the 2025–2026 school year. Although Norvitch may only hold this position for one semester, she is incredibly ambitious and will make important contributions to SGA.
From Gilbert, Minnesota, Norvitch has always had a passion for student government. She was first involved in student council in 7th grade and continued holding student government positions throughout middle and high school. Now, Norvitch is majoring in Political Science on a pre-law track. Aside from SGA, she is the President of Politics and Government Club, Vice President of Justice Choir, and runs Social Media and Events for the Pre-Law Society here at CSS.
Norvitch was initially a Freshman general senator for SGA but was immediately interested in the Vice President position. As she entered her first year in college with 68 credits, Norvitch will most likely be attending St. Scholastica for only two years total. Because of this, she is incredibly inclined to immediately get involved in all the things she is interested in. She is determined to do all she can in her short time at CSS to make a positive impact.
One of her main goals in the Spring is to encourage more connection between SGA and the student body. She has plans to put on an event similar to this semester’s Senate Supper event, which allowed students to share a meal with their senators as well as share any complaints or questions they had. To increase interest and engagement for the student body, Norvitch would like to revisit the idea of making SGA meetings into a Dig Lab. She also plans to continue the work of current Vice President Hastings to bring back the Cookies and Conversations event.
As Norvitch prepares to step into her new role, she is looking forward to approaching SGA from a new perspective and with new responsibilities. She wants the student body to know that anyone can come to her with questions or concerns. She believes every student’s voice matters, and as the upcoming Vice President of SGA, she plans to ensure that everyone is heard.
