In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Script reached out to Latinx Student Union club president Aaron Mena to learn more about the club and its origins.
Explain a little bit about the club.
LSU is about bringing all Latinx different cultures to CSS by hosting various events and fundraisers so everybody can see and enjoy the culture. You do not need to be part of the LSU community, anyone is more than welcome to join LSU!
How many members do you have?
We average around 25+ members but have many students who enjoy stopping by for events.
How often do you meet?
We try to aim for once a month, but there will be times when we will host twice a month.
What events do you do/have you done?
We have two events coming up this month, Lotería and Day of the Dead Dig Lab. In the past events, we have done a Latino movie night, making papel picados. We’ve also had tacos, Agua frescas, tres leches cake, and conchas with Abuelita hot chocolate for fundraisers. We are still brainstorming new ideas for fundraisers.
Why should people join this club?
People should join the club because we bring different cultures to the LSU community by making fun events that people would love! We also love hearing other perspectives and ideas for future events and fundraisers.
Why are you passionate about this club?
I am passionate about this club because they are students who are part of the LSU community and deserve a chance to feel more involved and comfortable with the activities that LSU hosts. They also deserve a place where they can voice their opinions and ideas.
