smith Students' art work featured at state capitol for black history month

In celebration of Black History Month, Smith Elementary School students in Mrs. Tomaiuolo's art class were selected to create original art work for the “Celebrating Black History Art Exhibition” at the State Capital, sponsored by the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity. Students selected past and present influential African Americans and created portraits of them, which were featured in an art exhibit on the walls of the Concourse between the State Capitol and the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

The students visited the State Capitol in Hartford on February 7 at a special art reception to be recognized for their contributions. They represented New Britain, Connecticut proudly, along with students from Bridgeport and Hartford. The students' art work was displayed alongside the work of featured artist Malcolm Stanley.
