CONTEXT: The Catholic Schools Public Speaking competition is held in Term 1 each year and entry is open to a maximum of TWO students from each of years 7-10 and up-to FOUR students in years 11 and 12 from any Catholic School in New South Wales.

The competition is run in three consecutive rounds as follows:
- Round 1: Preliminary round where a range of speakers (depending on numbers) are taken into a second round;
- Zone Final: Students successful in round 1 move to a zone final to determine the number of competitors for the final
- Final: Students compete against a select number of their peers to win their year division in the competition.
The topics for this competition are varied and students are expected to prepare their speeches and deliver a polished and refined oratorical presentation.
In any given year approximately 1000 people, including student participants, volunteer adjudicators and debating teachers are involved in the Public Speaking Competition.
