PRIMARY EDUCATION

PRIMARY EDUCATION

Primary education takes six years, starting at the age of six and finishing at the age of twelve.

Fundamental goals which affect the basic skills of Primary education are:-

  • Advanced multilingual oral understanding in all languages taught at the school:

  • Spanish, English, Catalan and German.

  • From Nursery until 4th Primary classes are given in Spanish, English and Catalan

  • From 5th Primary a second foreign language, German is introduced as part of the curriculum.

  • German is also offered as an extracurricular activity from 3 years old in Junior School.

  • Chinese Mandarin and French are also offered as extracurricular activities.

  • Strengthening of multilingual oral understanding of all our students through the subject of debate in 3 languages on a weekly basis in Primary and in Spanish in Junior school.

Official exams of all languages which are taught at our school.

Annually these exams are offered at our school to be able to obtain the official certificates:

  • Official exams of YLE (Young Learners - British Council) in English.

  • Official exams in Chinese in our school through the Instituto Confucio.

  • Official exams in German which are held in Secondary school with the Goethe-Institut.

Mathematics through reasoning

The mathematics learning programme is based on the manipulation of materials, reasoning and the application of logical-mathematical thinking.

The aim is for our pupils to become truly competent in solving real mathematical problems and challenges that they may encounter in their everyday environment and to prepare them for their future in such a way that they do not work from mechanisation, but from reasoning.

Multidisciplinary projects

Project-based learning is a methodology that enables learners to acquire key 21st century knowledge and skills through the development of projects that respond to real-life problems. Project-based learning and teaching is part of the active learning environment. Different disciplines are developed within the same project simultaneously. STEM and STEAM projects are also carried out.

Team Teaching

It is a dynamic that allows the quality of teaching to be improved by interweaving different subjects and possibilities, and making the best use of teachers' complementary skills.

As the name suggests, it consists first and foremost of teamwork. Within these teams, made up of both teachers and students, there are situations and processes that guide this group dynamic.

This methodology allows us to concentrate in the same classroom (180m classrooms) all the students of the same course, organised in cooperative groups in class sessions or in multidisciplinary projects that will be led by teams of between 5 and 8 teachers.

Cooperative Work

Cooperative learning allows and encourages interaction between diverse pupils who, in groups of four, cooperate in solving a wide variety of challenges. All pupils in the school always work in small heterogeneous cooperative groups.

The organisation of the class into small heterogeneous groups where pupils work together in a coordinated way to solve academic tasks and to deepen their own learning. The teacher designs and maintains almost complete control over the structure of the interactions and the results to be achieved.

Continuous development of digital competence

Searching for, obtaining, processing and communicating information to transform it into knowledge.

Programming and robotics.

Use of the TAC'S (Technology for learning and knowledge) to favour the whole learning process of our pupils.

GSUITE: This is a learning tool used through the Chromebook devices used by our pupils from Primary 5 onwards: Classroom, Sites, Presentations, Google Documents, Spreadsheets,... Google for Education digital tools that provide our pupils with the skills and competences necessary in the 21st century.

Our school has recently (January 2021) been recognised as a Google Reference School by the educational division of Google for Education.

It has also been considered as an "Acer Success Story in Technological Innovation".

Initiative, Entrepreneurship and Creativity

Through the Entrepreneurial projects and the creation of their companies, we continue in the line of encouraging our students' sense of initiative and entrepreneurial spirit in a vertical way.

Training in values

Education in values moves towards an integral formation of the person.

It aims to form responsible and respectful citizens who make their values a way of life.

"San Cayetano Volunteers", a project that promotes these values and allows them to get closer to this other reality, present today in our society.
