Typhoon Nika (Toraji) made landfall in Aurora today, November 11, at approximately 8:10 AM, bringing typhoon-force winds and rains across the majority of Northern Luzon.
PAGASA has raised various Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) in many parts of Luzon. Several areas near Aurora have been placed under TCWS #4, indicating very strong winds with widespread damage potential. Metro Manila remains under TCWS #1, resulting in class suspensions in accordance with DepEd Order No. 37, s. 2022.
According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin #13, Nika is currently moving northwestward at 25km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 130km/h near the center and gusts of up to 160km/h.
Nika is forecasted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow morning or afternoon, potentially weakening as it traverses mainland Luzon.
The storm is the third to make landfall in the Philippines this November, following a series of recent weather disturbances, including Super Typhoon Leon earlier this month.
