Assignment 10: Read a literature review

Before you begin

• Go over the module Information: Literature reviews if you did not attend the lecture on Week 10. You might also find it useful to revise Skill: How to read a paper.

Description

For this assignment you will find a literature review on a topic relevant to your research interests. This could be a paper that cites the research paper you read earlier or a paper that is cited within the paper you read (this is more likely if you read a recent paper). If you need help identifying a paper to read, please reach out to the instructors.

• Step 1: Skim the paper by reading the abstract, introduction, section titles, first sentence of each paragraph, and any part you find interesting. Also look through all figures and tables.

• Step 2: What are the different dimensions along which the papers are categorized, and what are the possible values for each dimension? This information is often presented in a large table in the paper where each row corresponds to a paper and each column corresponds to a dimension of categorization.

• Step 3: Where does the research paper you read earlier fit in terms of the dimensions you identified in Step 2? If the paper your read is already included in the review, you just need to pull the answer out of the review. Otherwise, you will need to think about the research paper you read earlier in terms of those dimensions and make a call on where it would fit.
