School Within a School

Let's talk about a new skill called School within a School, a simple tool that helps explain Cru, and how students can get involved.

But before that, let’s review what to remember while meeting with students.

Be an adult

Pray

Get to the point of your appointment

And finally, stay relational from start to finish.

So, with this in mind, let’s get started…

The best way for me to introduce school within a school, is by showing how you use it.

Last time we met Abby. She and her friends met me last week at Danny’s pizza. Right after, I got a text from her telling me how much fun she had. It wasn’t hard for me to suggest a second meeting. In setting this up I told her, When we meet again, “I’d love to tell you more about Cru, and how you and your friends can get involved.”

That brings us to the school within a school!

We’re back at Danny’s and our time has been casual and upbeat.

Now, How do you steer the conversation toward that topic?

This is the gist, though you may want to personalize it. “Abby, do you remember I told you I’m with Cru High School? “I’d love to tell you more about that, and how you can get involved.”

Triangle Diagram

This triangle represents you. (Draw the diagram on napkin or piece of notebook paper.)

If it’s true we are three dimensional, body, mind and spirit, then what does the school offer to help you grow intellectually? How about physically? Does it offer anything on the spiritual level? Of course, that’s why Cru high school exists, to offer what we call a school within a school environment. Here’s what’s available…

Again, draw a crude diagram of the four-layer cake. In each layer write

CRU MEETINGS - Into the bottom layer write: Cru Meetings-“these are designed to “come and see” what a relationship with God is about. They’re often designed by students, and are a fun way to hear how God relates to you.

BIBLE STUDIES - Into the next layer write: Bible Studies- these are designed to help you “Come & Learn” You’ll have a chance to be with friends talking over the important aspects of your faith, and we always have food!

CONFERENCES & PROJECTS - Into the third layer write: “Conferences & Projects”- these are getaways that help you “come & do” building on your interest spiritually; a place to trust God in new ways, and a chance to learn how to make a difference for Christ in your school.

LEADERSHIP - Finally, in the top layer write: “Leadership”- “come & lead” Cru high school. Whether it’s teaching friends in a Bible study, or leading our weekly meetings, at the right time we encourage you to step up and take charge.

So, Abby, which of these sounds most interesting to you?

Depending on which area they point to, you can go deeper into explaining all about how they can get involved.

Now, your ministry may be structured slightly different than the one described here. Feel free to adapt the birthday cake diagram to whatever ministry looks like on your campus.
