Cru is a high school and middle school ministry (formerly known as Student Venture and Campus Crusade for Christ International). The application for any International Mission uses an online system. Below are a few things you need to make sure to do.
1. DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE PARENT CONSENT PACKET. (IF YOU ARE UNDER 18 )
This packet can be found on the Forms tab. Give this packet to your parents. It includes a consent form that your parent/guardian must read, sign, and mail to our office. You will submit your application online but it will not be evaluated until the parent consent form is received. If you are 18 you are not required but can still print the consent packet and give it to your parents as it is full of valuable information.
2. BEING THAT YOU WILL BE OVER 18 WHEN YOU LEAVE ON GAP WE WILL NEED A BACKGROUND CHECK PERFORMED.
We are required by law to perform a background check on anyone over the age of 18 who is out of high school. Once you turn 18 you will receive an e-mail from the International Missions office for the background check. Follow the instructions in the e-mail carefully. If you do not receive the e-mail please contact us at hsinternationalmissions@cru.org
3. CLICK ON THE “APPLY FOR GAP YEAR” BUTTON.
The "Apply for Gap Year" button can be found under the picture at the top of the page.
These questions will help you determine if you are ready to apply for a mission:
Once you click on the button you will have multiple options for signing in. Use the one that will work best for you. Or, you can click “Sign Up” to create a user name and password to access your application. If you went on a mission last year, you can enter the user name and password that you used last year. Read the instructions carefully. You will not need to fill out the entire application in one sitting. You will have the option of saving your work and coming back to it later. You will need to provide 4 references.
Select four people and have their email addresses handy when you apply, including:
A peer/friend who knows you well.
A spiritual leader. (Preferably this will be a Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ staff person, or you may ask a pastor/youth pastor or adult Bible Study leader – someone who knows you well.)
A teacher/coach or employer.
A parent/guardian.
When you have completed the application you will need to pay the $25.00 application fee. This may be done online with a credit or debit card. Also, you may mail a check or money order (made payable to “Cru”) to Cru – High School International Missions / 100 Lake Hart Dr. MC3200 / Orlando, FL 32832 – 0100. Please do not send cash.
4. ONCE ALL THE REQUIRED COMPONENTS OF YOUR APPLICATION ARE RECEIVED, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE REVIEWED.
Your information will be reviewed carefully and held in the strictest confidence.
5. VOLUNTEER SERVICE AGREEMENT AND GAP YEAR COVENANT
Please click the link to both the Service Agreement and Covenant, these can be found on the Forms tab. Print and fill out all forms completely and mail to the Cru - High School International Missions office. The Volunteer Service Agreement is required by our legal department indicating that you are volunteering your services during your time with us on Gap Year. The funds you are raising will cover your expenses, you will not be collecting any compensation for the duration of the mission.
6. DOUBLE CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ALL FORMS FILLED OUT AND READY TO MAIL TO THE INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS OFFICE.
