presenting the message and material to students

Main sessions

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE BEST SPEAKER?

  • Pray for God’s direction and wisdom in leading you to the right speaker, who will boldly proclaim His truth.
  • Brainstorm a list of godly men and women who you know are actively living out the gospel,
  • Contact them with your theme in mind and what you want the next steps of your movement to be.
  • Connect with them personally in order to explain your vision and to understand their feedback.
  • Consider the diversity of your audience, you want a speaker to be able to speak well to the each and to the every.

WHERE DO I GO TO FIND SPEAKERS?

  • Ask your campus's Cru staff to speak and for their recommendations.
  • Consider your church and pastoral staff and partners.
  • Reach out to other Cru staff within your region for guidance.

HOW DO I CHOOSE AN EMCEE?

  • Emcees will act as guides who will lead students through the weekend, connecting the different elements together.
  • These are the values in order of priority to consider when choosing an emcee:
    • Clear communicator
    • Understanding of the purpose and vision and bought into it
    • Relatable
    • Funny
  • Take some time to write out scripts with the emcee for each transition, so that everyone is on the same page and the sessions flow smoothly.

HOW DO I ORGANIZE THE WORSHIP TIME?

  • Worship through music is meant to provide a space for student to respond in praise to God.
  • The song choices should be intentional to lift up the name of Jesus and promote the majesty of God.
  • The style of worship should be chosen in a way to provide for students of different backgrounds to engage well in worship.
  • Reach out to Cru staff for worship leader suggestions as well as your personal or local churches. You could also involve those who have been in Cru before to see if they are willing to volunteer their time to serve.
  • Inform your worship team about the theme of your weekend.
  • It is important to note that the set lists should be well planned out and rehearsed before the weekend.
  • Contact the camp to learn about the AV capabilities and needs.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TESTIMONY SHARING?

  • Testimonies provide another way for the gospel to be told in a relational and vulnerable way.
  • Choose 1-2 students and 1-2 staff members to share their faith story with the whole or in breakouts about how Jesus changed their life.
  • These stories help students recognize and imagine how the theme of the weekend can be experienced in real life.
  • Visit cru.org for more information on how to craft a testimony.

HOW DO I CRAFT THE RESPONSE TIME?

In a digital age, there is something incredibly significant about students physically engaging and responding to God. It's important to pause and take action to respond to what God is doing in their heart and what they are learning it becomes a critical part in their journey

  • Remember the area of growth you’re trusting God for this weekend.
  • Identify the step of faith you are praying for students to take, this should have been identified when crafting your theme.
  • Provide time and an invitation for students to take that step as they respond to what God has been doing over the weekend

breakout sessions

  • Breakout sessions serve to explore certain topics in a smaller more intimate setting. They often allow for sharing, collaboration, questions, and prayer.
  • These are focused on learning and exploring a new topic, there will be additional breakout times for community and connection.
  • Structure about 2-4 breakout sessions per hour focusing on the deeper questions students may have about God and Christianity.
  • Possible topics could include:
    • How to read your Bible
    • What does a quiet time look like
    • Prayer
    • The Holy Spirit’s role in our lives
    • How to share your faith
    • Men’s and women’s breakouts
  • Another way to structure breakouts is by year in college.
  • Check out cru.org for more ideas.
