Superintendent Search Update from the Board of Education:
The Copper River School District Board of Education (CRSDBOE) is pleased and excited to announce that they have unanimously voted to offer the position of Superintendent to Theresa Laville, our current Assistant Superintendent. Mrs. Laville will start her new role beginning April 1st, pending contract negotiations. The search for our new Superintendent began last August when we recruited an Interim Superintendent and contracted McPherson and Jacobson, LLC to facilitate the search process. Over 20 applicants were vetted and eight interviewed, with two candidates brought before the district employees and community at large for final interviews and selection. The CRSDBOE thanks all the candidates for their applications and interest in our District. And we especially recognize our two finalists for coming forward to meet and interact with our teachers, administrators, and community members and enduring a very long day of answering difficult questions.
The CRSDBOE would also like to thank all our staff and community members who participated in this long search process. We received valuable input through online surveys, zoom meetings, and direct phone calls. We could not have chosen the right Superintendent to lead our District in the education of all our children without the full support of this community. So once again, thank you all!
Please feel free to contact Mrs. Laville and welcome her to her new position. She has stepped up to the challenge of leading our District because she holds a special and devout passion for education and has chosen to direct that passion to make the CRSD the best School District in the state.

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT
The Copper River School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that after a second round of advertising, vetting, and interviewing, we have selected two finalists for the final round in our process to choose a new Superintendent for our District. We will be bringing both candidates into our community on Monday, March 20, to tour the district, meet teachers and staff, meet our administrators, and participate in an open forum with our community. The tentative schedule for this tour is as follows:
Monday, March 20
8:00-11:30 Kenny Lake tour
12:15-1:30 Lunch in Copper Center
2:00-3:00 Meet with staff from Glennallen (Zoom KL and Slana)
3:00-4:00 Meet with administrators
4:45-6:00 Dinner with Board Members Board Room
6:15-7:45 Public Forum in Glennallen Auditorium
Tuesday, March 21
9:00-11:00 Second interview with Board, Board Room
Our two candidates are Ms. Carla Marquand and Ms. Theresa Laville.
Ms. Marquand originally hails from Connecticut and has over 20 years of educational and administrative experience. She was most recently a 7th-grade Social Studies teacher in Connecticut and was an Executive Director, Assistant Principal, and Principal in the Fairbanks School District. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Principal in two school districts and also served as a Middle School Teacher and Director of Technology and Curriculum in two School Districts in Connecticut.
Ms. Laville originally hails from Dominica, an island in the Caribbean. She has served in education for over 25 years, most recently as the Assistant Superintendent of CRSD, School Principal, Assistant Principal, and Director of School Culture and Climate in the Dillingham City School District. Prior to that, she spent 10 years in the Bering Strait School District as an Itinerant Teacher and Trainer and English Language Arts Facilitator.
We are very excited to introduce these two candidates to our staff and community and the School Board hopes you will all take advantage of this opportunity to meet and weigh in on these candidates prior to the Board’s final decision on hiring.

Copper River School District Board of Education Hires Interim Superintendent for 2022-2023 School Year
The Copper River School District Board of Education (Board) is excited to announce the hiring of Richard Carlson as Interim Superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year. The hiring of an Interim Superintendent is essential to the success of our students while the Board continues its search for a permanent Superintendent.
We are fortunate to have found such a highly experienced and versatile candidate as Mr. Carlson. Mr. Carlson has over 40 years experience in education with most of his tenure spent in Alaska. He has worked with the Bearing Strait, Hoonah City, Lower Yukon, North Slope, Haines Borough, Cordova, and Klawok school districts as a teacher, interim Superintendent, Superintendent, Counselor, and many other administrative and support roles. Mr. Carlson's longest tenure was 12 years as the Superintendent of Klawock School District. Currently, Mr. Carlson, in addition to being an interim Superintendent, is a contracted Superintendent Mentor with the Alaska Superintendents Association and is also mentoring the Dillingham School District Superintendent. Mr. Carlson will officially start his duties with the CRSD on October 1st and will be living here in the community. Between now and then, Mr. Carlson is taking the time to contact our various administrators and starting to form the relationships needed to be a successful part of our district.

Copper River School District Board of Education Contracts Superintendent Search Consultant
At its regular meeting on Tuesday September 13, the Copper River School District Board of Education (Board) accepted the proposal from McPherson and Jocobsen, LLC to facilitate the search for a permanent Superintendent to lead the CRSD into the future. McPherson and Jacobsen is a national company based in Omaha, Nebraska with offices across the country. Our lead search consultant has conducted 100's of searches and is based in Vancouver, Washington with two additional consultants based here in Alaska. The search for our next Superintendent will begin in mid-October with a meeting between the Board and M&J consultants to set the parameters of the search. Our goal is to have a new Superintendent in place by July 1.
