FAQ

Frequently Asked Student Questions:

Do you have to be in marching band?

No. During the fall semester, we will offer freshmen the opportunity to be in a concert band that requires no extra commitments. We believe this will allow freshmen to become acclimated to life at Kennedy High School before being submersed in the whirlwind we call marching band.

Can freshmen march if they want to?

ABSOLUTELY!!! Just sign up for Marching Band/Color Guard (1st hour).

Can you be in sports (volleyball, swimming, football, etc.) and be in band?

Of course!! We have swimmers, soccer players, volleyball players, wrestlers & football players in our band. We have had no conflicts we can't work through.

Does band cost a lot of money?

Nothing that can't be funded through our many fundraisers throughout the year. Many of our students completely pay for their band trip and any fees through fundraising.

Frequently Asked Parent Questions:

Are there fee associated with band?

Yes. We provide MANY fundraisers throughout the year that will more than cover any fees and/or expenses that will come from being in band at Kennedy. We will NEVER turn a student away from participation in the Kennedy Band program.

Is it true that marching band takes A LOT of time?

Marching Band is a class that meets 1st hour everyday. There are some after school commitments.

Will my child have enough time for school work if they are in the marching band?

OF COURSE!

How can I, as a parent, help/be involved with my student? Are there any opportunities to volunteer with the band?

We have numerous opportunities through our band parent organization - Kennedy Band Parents, INC. Please plan to attend as many band parent meetings (3rd Thursday of every month - 7:00pm) as you can to find out more details.

How will information be communicated?

The Kennedy Band program has many avenues for communication: email via Infinite Campus, Remind for parents and Remind for students, "GroupMe" for students, as well as our website.

What is Kennedy Band Parents, INC.?

A group made up of ALL parents of ALL band students who support the band program through fundraising, volunteering, and adding to the program those things the school district does not fund. They also help the directors with the multitude of tasks necessary to present a premium band program. Examples: providing meals for the students; chaperoning; helping with football games, contests, concerts, carnival, etc.

You will be receiving a Kennedy Band pamphlet in the mail that will include important dates, more detailed information, and the date for a marching band Question and Answer session.
