Autumn Term

Maths

We had a great start to the new term!

Today in maths we enjoyed making our own place value abacus using spaghetti and cheerios!

History

To start our history topic on the Islamic Civilisation the classroom was transformed into a trading market in Baghdad to help us find out about the silk roads and the goods that were travelled on them.

PHSE

We used drama to explore our PHSE topic on staying safe and managing risk. We looked at violent relationships and where you could go for help.

English

In English we have been reading the book 'There's a boy in the girls bathroom' by Louis Sacher. We used drama today to explore Bradley's thoughts and feelings.

Maths

Today in maths we played a game that involved rounding numbers within 1,00,000.

Science

In Science we represented how we have day and night and used the Earth's tilt to explain how we have seasons.

Today we sat in a circle and sketched the shape of the moon that we could see from our position. It helped us to explain why the moon appears to change shape and the cycle it has.

We marked out the planets orbits around the sun to represent how long a year is.

Art and DT

In art and DT, we enjoyed making our own coasters by designing our own Islamic patterns. We used acrylic pens and practised experimenting with geometric patterns.

History

We finished our Islamic Civilisation topic by reenacting the dramatic Mongol invasion of Baghdad in 1258 which brought an end to the golden age of Islam.

Science

In science we started our new topic on Forces.

Today we tested the explanations of Aristotle and Galileo about how things fall. Children investigated and found evidence for these ideas, exploring gravity as a non-contact force.

English

Today we started our new English book, 'Shackleton's Journey'. by William Grill. We all took on the role of a member of the crew and can't wait to read more to find out what happens to us in this incredible story!

Today we created a conscious alley to persuade Shackleton to stay or risk his life to get back to South Georgia from Elephant Island to raise the alarm for help.

Science

We investigated the question: Does the shape of an object affect its movement in water?

French

We enjoyed our morning of French at Deighton Gates today. We had a teacher from Wetherby High School to come and teach us some french and play games.

Children in Need

To raise money for children in need we wore spots and took part in a variety of fun activities. We enjoyed making shortbread biscuits as a whole school and decorating them with smarties.

Science

We made parachutes to investigate how we can slow a moving object down. We changed one variable in our parachute and observed what happened.

D Side

We enjoyed our visit from D-Side today. We learnt about the effects of smoking to start our new PHSE topic on Drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
