What a day at the Winding Trails Invitational!

9-22-18 (DM)

It was quite an exciting day for the Cromwell Cross Country team this Saturday at the Winding Trails Invite. The day started off with the JV boys race. The Cromwell boys got things going with a 2nd place performance by Mike G. in a new PR time of 18:32.8. The rest of the boys stepped up in this race as well. Every member ran to a PR time in this 5K event.

The varsity boys did not disappoint either. Every member of the varsity squad set a new PR at Winding Trails. The team combined for a solid 6th place finish out of 18 teams. Mark's 12th place performance in his new PR time of 16:35.8 led the boys. This is the fastest 5K by a Cromwell runner in the last decade. Mark was followed by Connor in 17.22.1, Mike Z. in 18:18.0, Shrey in 18:28.0, Felipe in 18:39.1, Nate in 18:54.6, and Karsten in 19:24.4. This performance made this group the fastest Cromwell top 7 in several decades.

The XC girls had a good showing as well. Though small in numbers due to several girls nursing some injuries, there are several new PR's from this group as well. The girls were led by Emma with a 21:47.1 showing in 27th place. Emma was followed by Taylor S. in a season best of 23:28.4, Allie in her new PR of 23:29.8, Georgia in a gritty 25:04.8, and Anastasia in 27:46.9 after stepping up to fill a vacancy in the varsity team. The JV Girls continued the trend as well. Emily had a great day dropping her PR by over 2:30. She was followed by Taylor T. in a new season best of 30:33.6.

The team, overall, is excited with the day and looking forward to the next chance to compete. That opportunity will come soon with the next meet being a Shoreline Conference meet at Morgan High School in Clinton, CT this Tuesday the 25th.
