Sometimes I’m on the streets,
And wish I had a home.
When I’m hungry or thirsty,
I’m fighting on my own.
Other dogs have families,
Whilst I don’t have a friend.
Through the dark nights and long days,
I want a home that I can attend.
My scruffy hair and long ears,
It’s hard for me to see.
Whilst all I ask for is,
A warm place to be.
I’m cold, tired and hungry,
And in need of a house.
So I show the people how cute I am,
I’m as quiet as a mouse.
Please take me to your home,
And I promise to be good.
I will be on my best behaviour,
As any dog should.
Next time you see me on the streets,
Sleeping through the night.
Don’t look at the mess or fur,
Look into my eyes so bright.
You can never
You can never walk in someone's shoes,
You can walk beside them,
But you will never truly understand,
You may think that you know how someone is feeling,
You may think that you understand their pain,
But you will never truly understand the way someone feels,
You might see things different to someone,
You might not understand why they feel the way they do,
But you can always try to empathise.
Brave And Beautiful
Scoliosis, it was called
Everyone, anyone, can suffer from it
Pain comes with it
Terrible pain.
Even the best doctors didn’t know what to do
My life became a waiting game full of tension when we found the right GP
Born into a good family, living a good life. I didn’t want this.
Everyone in my family was worried
Right up until we got a date for my surgery
The anticipation was the worst part
Wondering what it would be like
Everyone would worry about metal rods in your back to stop your spine curving
No one outside my family and close friends knew my struggles
Talking just made the inner and outer pain more real.
You didn’t know. You couldn’t.
Everyone at the hospital was so kind
I couldn’t thank them enough
Going home felt like I had conquered the world
However, in a way, I had
Toughest battle yet was gone and done.
Harder than I thought, but getting easier by the day.
PERSPECTIVES
Cognitive empathy,
To put yourself in their shoes.
To go into their mind,
To see their perspective.
As I walk through the hallways of her mind,
I am met with demons and doctors and angels.
“That’s an odd mix”, you’re probably thinking.
But they have something in common.
They’re all trying to tell her what to do.
They all want to share their perspectives.
Without listening to hers.
If we all listen to everyone’s opinions, we’ll feel respected.
If we listen to everyone’s ideas, we’ll feel acknowledged.
If we listen to everyone’s perspectives, they just might feel understood.
What is Empathy?
Empathy is the ability
To put yourself in someone’s shoes
It’s a sign of gentility
For when someone’s feeling the blues
It’s a special gift to give
It means a lot to someone
Empathising is a great way to live
It exactly what someone needs if they’re feeling numb
Whether anyone is angry or happy
Jealous, anxious or fearful
Depressed, stressed and unhappy
You will always be there for the tearful
When someone’s in need
Just have some empathy
It will help you succeed
And you will also have sympathy
Empathy
Everybody needs somebody
To hold their hand when they feel blue
To put your feet in their shoes
To feel what they feel,
Everybody needs somebody
They’ve been put through a tough war
They can’t bare it anymore,
Their heart hides so many wounds
Everybody needs somebody
There as strong as a daisy
Don’t fall down when knocked over ,
They’re beautiful and resilient
But they won’t last forever
Everybody needs somebody , by their side.
Rain Clouds
I saw you the other day,
And expected a huge smile!
But all I saw was sadness,
The saddest you’ve looked in a while.
I came to find you at breaktime
But you’d already gone
What if you were avoiding me?
Have I done something wrong?
I found you after science,
And the look on your face made me tear up.
You didn’t look like yourself,
Even with the makeup.
It was like the old you had been engulfed;
While waves crashed over your head.
The more you tried to get out
The less success you’d get.
I asked you what was wrong,
Then you insisted you were fine
But I could still see the rain clouds,
Even behind this new enforced smile.
I called over at your house,
To see you after school.
I wanted you to know I was there for you,
That this world doesn’t have to be cruel.
I sat with you in your bedroom,
After what had felt like years,
You finally let down your defences,
And the rain came out through tears.
You'd been stuck inside these four walls,
Feeling as if you have no voice.
Since covid came around,
You didn’t have a choice.
You saw those four walls start to shrink;
While the storm clouds rolled in.
And the flood barrier started to rise,
Global Warming poem:
Sweeping the land fueled blazes
There it is in Arctic and Antarctic a disintegrity Cuts of ice, the size of a small country Affecting us all, What is it?
Sodden wreckage continues hassling
Disasters continue bothering
Thrashing heat waves and fires
Threshing glacial melts and storms
Inflicting floods and climatic crashes
Massive attacks, why?
Something wrong, something warning
Unfortunately yes, global warming
Empathy
Everybody needs somebody
Model and mirror
Put yourself in their shoes
Ask if you can help
Treat others how you want to be treated
Hurtful or helpful
You feel better and they feel better
My friend and I
My friend and I
We talk about everything
When we are sad
We will fight it together
We will always be one
No one can separate us
But if they do
we always find a way to communicate
Just me and her
One day I saw my friend alone and sad
But I knew what I had to do
I went over to her and made her laugh
She felt a bit better after that
Once she calmed down
I asked her why she had a frown
She told me what had happened
And I was like hey why didn’t you tell
We got through it together
Like we’ve done forever
And now we are old and grey
we still look after each other
My friend and I
EMPATHY
Everyone listen closely,
As I tell a tale of a young man,
Rendered broken by
The cards God handed
Him.
Never have I had a friend with a life shattering disease, like Cancer for instance.
Even now, I know very few people with such medical flaws.
Except for one person. This boy, no… this man, Definitely seems like your typical headstrong child, yet beneath the covers, Something sinister plagues him.
Many of you have probably heard of Diabetes, though lots of you “cool kids” see it as a joke.
Or, maybe you see it has nothing tragic or fatal. In Reality, you couldn’t be more wrong.
Everyone listen closely for this next part. My brother, who
Everyone sees as a clumsy brute at first glance, has this Morbid curse. Because of it, his dreams and life goals are Pretty much impossible to reach. But does that stop him? If you Answered yes, you are wrong. No, he doesn’t stop. Never does he crack, or buckle.
The truth is,
He is more of a hero than anyone I know. I couldn’t be prouder of him. So, have You all enjoyed the tale of the boy, sorry… man, that proved to Diabetes, that he is in charge?
