Chris Milley:
To follow on Andre's comments, to the Panel: do you think greater attention should be placed on sps standards to protect local (regional)markets and promote domestic food security?
Peter A. Murray:
IN interest of time, maybe I will respond to @ChrisMilley with short answer: " yes!
Ronald M Gordon:
What’s in place to guide or assist a fisher in meeting the SPS standards of a prospective market?
Petronila Polius:

Chris Milley:
Consideration should be given to a regional financial mechanism to support harvester transition of fish handling equipment and storage infrastructure.
Susan Singh-Renton:
Good day... Congrats to CRFM on 20th anniversay and also on the webinar series. I had a question/ comment concerning how you see standards being addressed at the local/ community village level. For example, traditional practices of drying and salting - how could we help fishers/ vendors with few finances to still remain in business. COVID pandemic highlighted importance of diversification of approaches for resilience. The local market was very important to keep fishers in business during COVID.
Francis Chopin World Bank:
At the national level, are there any specific action plans and timelines for uptake of SPS measures?
Peter A. Murray:
@Susan Singh-Renton, that is a topic for a whole other webinar!!!
Susan Singh-Renton:
Important to meet them also where they are in terms of resources.
Peter A. Murray:
Francis Chopin. The CARICOM roadmap for implementing SPS measures exists. It was prepared during the 11th EDF project
Francis Chopin World Bank:
Thanks Peter, how far have countries got along the road map and is it on schedule of falling behind?
Peter A. Murray:
@andreKong, the draft model CARICOM SPS legislation DOES take into consideration the env issues
Christine Chan A Shing:
There may be opportunities for branding in the Tourism sector with respect to SPS compliance at the local level. Tagged largely to international trade many may feel that standards may not apply to them but it may be very important for basic standards are important.
Susan Singh-Renton:
Agree with basic standards. We just need to understand the resource constraints and work with these.
Chris Milley:
The need for SPS standards has been discussed by Aquaproducers (aquaculture and aquaponic operators) leading into the creation of the Caribbean Aquaproducers Association (which will be holding their first AGM next week.)
Susan Singh-Renton:
Thanks for a great seminar.
