Welcome to the Music Room

I clicked send on my grant application last week!

Keep your fingers crossed for our school, this funding would go a LONG way!

Hello parents, students, staff, friends, and family! I am so excited to be joining the Creighton School team.

I've created this Google Site to keep you all in the loop on what we are doing in Music. I will try my best to keep it up to date with all of the fun stuff we are learning. :)

At the top of the page, you will see links to Elementary, Jr High, and High School Music , as well as a place for any forms. If you are viewing this on a phone or tablet, you may have to open the Menu in the top left corner of your screen to access these pages.

A little bit about me.

Hi there! I am new here :) I am going to be working hard to get to know every one of my students, and I thought you might want to know a little bit about me.

My name is Vanessa Unrau. I have always been a music lover. I did most of my growing up in a small town called Garson, in Southern Manitoba. I went to elementary school in Beausejour, where I played Violin in our school’s Orchestra program. I was first exposed to band music in high school. I switched from Violin to French Horn, and had the opportunity to play with the upper level bands almost immediately. I graduated from LSRCSS (in Selkirk) and went straight into the Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba.

While at the University of Manitoba, I completed part of a Performance Degree, then switched into the Education Stream. I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Music Education, as well as an Education degree. I moved up to Flin Flon in May of 2011, right after my course work had been completed, to fill a term position teaching Elementary Music.

Since then I have taught at Joe A Ross, Creighton Community School, and Cranberry Portage Elementary School. I have also been involved in the Community Band, Community Choir (and got to be part of a few Musicals too!), Borealis, and have done some solo singing at Johnny's Social Club (a personal favourite of mine).

Music has brought me friendships across the world, it has comforted me during times of struggle, and it has even paid the bills! My hope is that through our time together, you will figure out, where music fits into your life, not only in class, but in the “outside world” as well.
