How Do Submarines Work?

Introduction

Submarines go silently and swiftly through the water. They are lean, mean machines that can stay submerged for weeks or months at a time.

Subs work by using trim tanks or ballast tanks. Ballast tanks fill up with water Trim tanks fill up with air

On a submarine or ship, the left side is port and the right side is starboard.

Life Support

If you want life support on a submarine you need a fresh water supply. You need to know the temperature and have a fresh supply of oxygen.

Torpedoes

Torpedoes are used to defend submarines or attack other ships during wartime. A torpedo is a bullet shaped bomb that is used by a submarine to damage or sink an enemy ship.

The steps for using a torpedo are:

1 - Open hatch
2 - FIRE!
3 - Reload
