New calves get high quality colostrum at birth only for one day. Also a calf will get it for 2 feedings.
After the first day a calf will get milk for 2 months (60 days). A calf is picky just like most kids so calf feed makers put molasses and texture it so calves eat it better.
When a calf is weaned off of milk it will get water for life. Also a calf will start to eat hay. Hay is dry grass.
When a cow is a year old it is called a heifer. Heifers will go out to pasture and eat grass. Also a cow will eat TMR. TMR means total mix ration and it has all the thing cows need. Only a cow that's in a barn gets TMR.
One way a cow is happy is that a cow is chewing its cud . Cud is food that a cow eats whole then a cow re-eats.
Balage is wet hay. It was wet when it was made at the end of spring or in the summer. Cows eat balage in the winter.
When it's summer a farmer will grow cow corn for the winter. Cow corn is shorter than regular corn. Also a farmer will grow alfalfa. It is a type of grass that cows love.
