Pokémon was created more than 25 years ago by a man named Satoshi Tajiri and his friend Ken Sugimori. When Satoshi was a kid he liked finding bugs and tadpoles. That is what inspired him to make Pokémon.

More than 368 million Pokémon video games have been sold all around the world. Also there are trading cards, TV shows, movies, and other games like Pokémon Go.

The First Games

The first Pokémon video game came out in 1996. It was called Pocket Monster and was released in a Red and Green version. The name Pocket Monster was changed to Pokémon.

The most popular Pokémon in battling is Mega Kangaskhan because of its ability to hit the target twice with each move. Pikachu is one of the main Pokémon used in the many Pokémon series.

In Pokémon Adventures, the main characters Red and Yellow train Pikachu which creates a gold egg that hatches into Pichu. Other series, including Magical Pokémon Journey and Getto Da Ze, also feature Pikachu. Other manga series such as Electric Tale of Pikachu and Ash & Pikachu feature the well known Pikachu belonging to Ketchum in the animé series.

The actor Ryan Reynolds was the voice of detective Pikachu in the 2019 Pokémon Detective Pikachu. Pokémon: The First Movie came out in 1998 when the new character Mewtwo was introduced. Mewtwo was created from the DNA of Mew, one of the rarest Pokémon.

Pikachu is the most popular character mainly due to his appearance. Standing 40cm tall Pikachu was the first Electric-type Pokémon.

Other characters

The name Mew refers to the sound of a cat. In the Pokédex, Mewtwo is number 150. He is a species that was cloned by scientists from Mew.

When a player picks up and throws a Poké Ball, a Pokémon comes out and attacks other players. Charizard was the first character to appear in this way. Charizards are known as Flame Pokémon. They are honorable but can be violent. They are always looking for a fight.

Ken Sugimori is the illustrator of the original Pokémon character artwork.

The first Nintendo Pokémon game came out in 1996 in a red and green version.

Nine generations of Pokémon games have been released, This is Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which came out in 2014.
