• Visit Classics for Kids and use the interactive map of the orchestra to explore the instrument families. Think about what makes each instrument family different. If you were to play an instrument, which would you choose?

Art:

Choose one or two of these activities to explore throughout the week:

• The Toy Theater Website: There are many different art games to explore. Share which games you liked the most with your art teacher. Ms. Baillod’s favorites are : 1) Twirl, 2) Spin, 3) Animation Station.
• Color Mandala: Pick and choose a mandala to color digitally online or print out a black and white mandala and use material of choice to color.
• Learn about famous artists through the YouTube channel “Art with Mati and Dada”. These animated stories give a brief history into the lives of famous artists. Let your art teacher know which artist you find interesting, or try to create your own work inspired by them.
• Students can follow along here to create a drawing of a frog and even add a crown to make a frog prince. Then add a background of your choice and add color when complete.

• Explore radial symmetry online with Silk. Save pictures of artworks you love and share them with your teacher!
• “Trash Into Treasure” Recycled Art project: Look in your trash/recycling to find a clean material or materials (ex. toilet paper rolls, water bottle, or cardboard boxes). Cut it, color it, build something new with it. You can research different ideas online if you are stuck. Take a picture of it and send it to your art teacher if you like… We would love to see the finished project!
• AutoDraw is a new kind of drawing developed by Google that “pairs the magic of machine learning with drawings from talented artists to help everyone create anything visual, fast”. Once you draw a shape or line, AutoDraw suggests what objects look visually similar to create masterpieces. Watch the video first and then launch experiment!
• Students can outline a bunny here or draw their own with washable markers and then use a paintbrush dipped in water to add light values (the markers will spread when water is added).

• Quick, Draw!: This game developed by Google gives you 20 seconds to draw an object or idea and then has an artificial intelligence robot guess what you are trying to draw. The robot learns from each drawing and gets smarter the next round.
• The Art of Ed 100 Silly Drawing Prompts: Choose one or two prompts to draw and use materials of your choice.
• A guided drawing of a Toucan: follow along here and add your own details, then add color with your choice of medium.

• The Color Cube Art Game: Using your mouse or finger, choose different colored blocks to build a “geometric” picture.
• Tate Street Art: Create your own street art! Street art usually features the artist’s name or a message, like a positive quote. Share them with your teacher and tell them why you drew what you drew!

• Practice what you know about color theory with this color matching game.
• A fun collage with photoshop characteristics: You can print out animals provided here, cut in half, and glue mixing and matching different animals together (example: a zebra body with a moose head). Use color pencils to add color or medium you have available (crayons, markers, etc.).

• Tate Paint Activity (from the Tate Museum, London UK): Students can create pictures using a mobile phone or computer and share in the gallery.
• Read Harold and the Purple Crayon (click for YouTube video). Talk about Harold’s imagination, and then use your imagination and an art tool to draw your own picture!
• Watch these YouTube videos about colors: Rainbow Colors and My Color is Rainbow. Identify colors of objects close to you and on your clothes. Use colors one at a time and identify them.
• Follow along here to create a Rhino then color with crayons.

• Mario Paint Composer - [LINK] This site enables students to create their own 8-bit music that sounds like it’s from an actual Super Nintendo video game. Students can also download their song as an mp3 to keep or to share. A great music writing site for all ages.
• Folk Ways - [LINK] A great site for upper elementary to high school students interested in world music!
• DSO Kids - [LINK] Dallas Symphony Orchestra website for students of all ages. It has pages for different composers and instruments including video and audio clips. Also has activities for students including coloring pages, practice tips, and ideas for making your own instrument.
• Classics for Kids - [LINK] Classical music for elementary music. Site includes music and information on composers, quizzes, games, and activities students can do at home.
• Brain Pop - [LINK] Again, can’t assume everyone knows about BrainPop. Great video resources about musical genres, making music, and MORE! Great for elementary - middle school.
• Teoria - [LINK] Ear training and theory resources for more advanced students.
• Rhythm Randomizer - [LINK] Here students can practice reading rhythms. Students can choose different note and rest values and the site will randomly generate new sight-reading exercises.

• Mo Willems is holding a "lunch doodle" every day at 1pm. New videos will be posted every weekday on The Kennedy Center's website here. You can use any materials you have at home and there are also downloadable resources to help you!
