Summer Referendum Project Progress 

Work on the following projects began in Summer 2025 and is complete or nearly complete. 

• High School: Bathroom renovations, Window replacement

• Hillside Avenue: Bathroom renovations

• Lincoln School: Bathroom renovations, Window replacements

• Orange Avenue: Bathroom renovations

 Kindergarten Addition Updates 

Construction on the classroom additions began this past summer. Currently, the foundations for all four schools have been poured. The tuition-free, full-day kindergarten program for all students is expected to begin at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Construction on the following projects are scheduled to begin but are not expected to be completed until Summer 2026. 

• Brookside Place: Addition, Media center renovation, Music room renovation, Multi-purpose room air conditioning replacement, Window replacement

• Bloomingdale Avenue: Addition, Media center renovation, Music room renovation, Multi-purpose room air conditioning replacement, Window replacement

• Walnut Avenue: Addition, Media center and Music room renovation, Multi-purpose room air conditioning replacement, Window replacement

• Hillside Avenue: Addition

• Electrical service upgrades at all schools, except the High School

 Projects Currently Out for Bid 

The awarding of bids is part of the plan to improve infrastructure in the schools. The state requires school districts that pass a referendum to award contracts through a competitive bidding process; the district is required to use the lowest-qualified bidder. This protects the community’s interest in ensuring that projects are completed in the most cost-effective way possible.

• Hillside Avenue: STEAM classroom renovations, Culinary Arts classroom renovations

• Orange Avenue: STEAM classroom renovations, Culinary Arts classroom renovations

• Livingston Avenue: Media center renovation, Music room renovation, Multi-purpose room air conditioning replacement, Window replacement, Unit ventilator upgrades

The district went out to bid in the fall of 2024 for the following: 

• Electrical service upgrades  

• Elevator replacement  

• Bathroom renovations   

• Window replacements 

The Board awarded a contract for elevator upgrades at Cranford High School to Drill Construction Company of West Orange. They also awarded bids for window replacement at Cranford High School and Lincoln School to D & E Window and Door LLC and Panoramic Window and Door Systems. Four schools will also undergo bathroom renovations, including Lincoln School, Cranford High School, Orange Avenue and Hillside Avenue School. The board awarded two bids to Drill Construction Company of West Orange to complete this work.

The district went out to bid in December 2024 for the following: 

• Full-day kindergarten and interior renovations (construction management)

The Board awarded a contract for on-site construction management services to Epic Management, Inc. for the projects associated with the 2024 bond referendum. This includes the kindergarten additions and interior renovations at Bloomingdale Avenue School, Brookside Place School, Hillside Avenue School and Walnut Avenue School. 

The district went out to bid in February 2025 for the following: 

• Full-day kindergarten and interior renovations

The Board of Education awarded a contract to The Bennett Company to complete the kindergarten classroom additions and interior renovations needed at Brookside Place, Bloomingdale Avenue, Walnut Avenue and Hillside Avenue schools. With construction set to begin this spring, the district is on track to complete the work in time for the 2026-27 school year.
