Google Slides are used for presentations, just like Microsoft Power Point.
You must have the Google Slides app (from Self Service) on your iPad in order to view and edit Google Slides.
If you open the Google Slides app, it will give you a list of Slides you have stored in your Google Drive, organized by when you last opened them, so if you're returning to the same Slides frequently, that can be an easy way to find them.
You can also search for Slides by title, using the magnifying glass in the top right corner.
You can also open Slides by finding them in your Google Drive app, and your iPad will automatically switch to the Google Slides app for viewing the Slides.
The iPad app does not have all the functions that Google Slides has on the computer; for instance, you can't add animations or transitions in the app.
Use the plus sign in the bottom right corner to start a new presentation.
Choose "New presentation" or click the pencil if you want a blank presentation, or tap "Choose template" if you want a choice of themed templates for your presentation.
Type the title for your presentation.
Start typing your presentation.
To add a slide to a presentation:
Tap the icon of the slide with the plus sign, in the bottom left corner.
Tap the format for the slide that you want to add. Scroll down for more options.
Formatting options are across the top of your screen once you tap in a text box:
B will make text bold.
I will make text italic.
U will underline text.
S will strike through text.
Choose A to change the color of text.
Choose the highlighter icon to highlight text.
Tap on the lines to change alignment (left, center, or right).
Tap on the vertical arrows to align text to the top, middle, or bottom of the text box.
Tap on the dots with lines to make a bulleted list.
Tap on the numbers with lines to make a numbered list.
Tap on the triangles with lines to indent text.
Choose the paint bucket to fill the text box with a colored background.
Choose the pen to change the color of the text box border.
Choose the different-sized lines to change the style of the border.
In the top right corner, there are more options:
Left arrow to undo whatever you did last, to fix mistakes.
Right arrow to redo whatever you did last.
Play button (triangle) to show your presentation full-screen. Note: if your teacher has shared an assignment in Google Slides that requires you to move images around on the Slides, you CANNOT move things around in full-screen /presentation mode.
Add person icon to share your presentation with someone (if you're working with others).
Plus sign to insert a text box, image, table, shape, or many more options.
Thought bubble with lines for inserting a comment (if you're working with others).
3 dots menu for other file options, including showing speaker notes, sharing and exporting options, and making the Slides available for working offline.
If you want to be able to work on your Slides someplace where you don't have internet access, just make them available offline:
Tap on the 3 dots menu in the top right corner.
Tap the toggle switch to make the Slides available offline.
If you're done editing your presentation, and want to go to the menu of your other presentations, click the checkmark in the top left corner to change to viewing mode.
The checkmark then turns into a back arrow, which will take you back to the menu.
