Google Docs is a word processing app, like Microsoft Word.
You must have the Google Docs app (from Self Service) on your iPad in order to view and edit Google Docs.
If you open the Google Docs app, it will give you a list of Docs you have stored in your Google Drive, organized by when you last opened them, so if you're returning to the same Doc frequently, that can be an easy way to find it.
You can also search for a Doc by name, using the magnifying glass in the top right corner.
You can also open a Doc by finding it in your Google Drive app, and your iPad will automatically switch to the Google Docs app for viewing the Doc.
Use the plus sign in the bottom right corner to start a new document.
Choose "New Document" or click the pencil.
Type the title for your document.
Start typing your document.
If you're done editing your Doc, click the checkmark in the top left corner to change to viewing mode. The checkmark will then turn into a back arrow, which will take you back to your list of files.
If you're in viewing mode and want to edit your Doc, click the pencil in the bottom right corner to change to editing mode.
Formatting options are across the top of your screen:
B will make text bold.
I will make text italic.
U will underline text.
S will strike through text.
Choose A to change the color of text.
Choose the highlighter icon to highlight text.
Tap on the lines to change alignment (left, center, or right).
Tap on the dots with lines to make a bulleted list.
Tap on the numbers with lines to make a numbered list.
Tap on the triangles with lines to indent text.
In the top right corner, there are more options:
Left arrow to undo whatever you did last, to fix mistakes.
Right arrow to redo whatever you did last.
Plus sign to insert a link, image, table, page break, or many more options.
A with lines for more text formatting options, including font and text size.
3 dots menu for many more file options, including page setup for printing, sharing and exporting options, and making the Doc available for working offline.
If you want to be able to work on your Doc someplace where you don't have internet access, just make it available offline:
Tap on the 3 dots menu in the top right corner.
Tap the toggle switch to make the Doc available offline.
