Creating with Recyclables

Boredom Busters Using Recyclables

Create a cereal box journal or sketchbook. Here is a link to an easy version, although you may want to ask an adult for help with the needle. You could also just use a hole-punch instead of a needle and then use yarn to hold it together. Use your finished book as a daily journal or sketchbook while on break.

Create a collage using junk mail and old magazines. Here is a link to an artist who uses junk mail to “paint with paper” in her work. Be inspired, think green, and have fun! Remember, your work will be different than hers, because you are not her. Your art should represent you and your interests right now. The main thing is you are having fun! You will need scissors, glue, a background paper, and magazine or junk mail paper to cut for the image you choose to create. You can also use words like the artist in this link:

Create a sculpture or craft using clean recyclables such as cardboard tubes and boxes, egg cartons, bottle caps, plastic containers, etc. Here are a few links to sites with project examples. I know you are all super creative, so please feel free to create your own artwork from your imagination! This is what I would really like for you to do, but if you need ideas to get started, there are several in the sites below.

***Adult supervision and assistance may be necessary on quite a few of these projects, especially with younger students. Have fun making memories crafting together!

Create a mixed media artwork using pictures from a magazine. Then, draw and/or paint the rest of the picture. Here is a link to a website with student examples.
