The plan to keep our students, staff, and community safe begins at home each day with each Solon Robinson Family. In order to keep our school healthy, many new steps are part of the plan. An important first step is to stay home if you have any symptoms. During the school day, students and staff will be socially distanced whenever possible, and masks will be worn most of the time.
Bus rides, hallways, lunches, recess, and most importantly – time in the classroom – will be different. However, this "different " will help us stay safe and stay open. This page will be updated as new information becomes available and can change as guidance changes. Please contact Mrs. Merrill at bmerrill@cps.k12.in.us if you have any questions!
Each day, students and staff need to complete a HOME health screening. It will be important for those who have symptoms to stay home from school.
Parents will need to monitor their child's health and use a thermometer to take the child's temperature; if the temperature is over 100.0 degrees, the student must stay home and remain home until he/she is 72 hours fever free without medications.
All students and staff are required to bring and wear masks to school on daily basis.
Upon entry, students will report to their classroom area unless they are getting breakfast in the cafeteria.
If a student needs a new mask while at school, one will be provided.
The main doors will be used for car riders and walkers to enter the building.
Walkers may enter the main entrance beginning at 9:45 am. (start time re-evaluated at Fall Break)
Bus riders will unload buses starting at 9:50 each day. (start time re-evaluated at Fall Break)
All students will need to wear a mask from the time they get out of their vehicle or bus until they are directed by an adult in the school that they can remove it.
Cold breakfast will be available from 9:40 - 10:00 am.
Students will eat breakfast at cafeteria tables.
Tables will be spaced out and facing the same direction.
Students will follow daily hygiene procedure when entering the classroom, including hand washing/sanitizer, disinfecting desks periodically.
Seating charts will be used in all classes.
Student desks will be spaced out as much as physically possible.
Student desks will be aligned in the same direction facing the teacher.
When students are working in close, face to face proximity masks are to be worn at the direction of the teacher.
Teachers will wear a mask when in close proximity to students; a teacher is not required to wear a mask when speaking from the front of the room more than 6 feet away from students.
Hallways at Solon Robinson are wide enough to provide for distancing in almost all areas.
Students and adults will wear masks in the hallways at all times.
Students and adults will walk close to the wall on the right side of the hallway at all times.
Lunch tables in the cafeteria are spaced out and are all facing the same direction.
Staff members will serve lunches - students will only touch their tray.
When CPCSC is in 'Yellow' lunch will occur in the cafeteria.
Students will have assigned seats during lunch.
Lunches should utilize disposable containers when possible. Sandwich bags and containers that can be opened by the student are preferred. Paper lunch bags are the easiest for clean-up.
Specials courses will happen in their typical area; however, PE will occur outside when possible.
Shared materials will be minimized as much as possible. When they are used, they will be cleaned between groups.
Students will sanitize hands when leaving the ‘Specials’ course.
Lockers will be available, but trips to lockers will be limited as much as possible.
Student assigned alternating lockers to allow space for students on A or B days.
One class will play on a particular part of the recess area at a time.
Students will play at a distance, but when they are close and face-to-face they will be directed to put masks on.
Playground equipment will be cleaned periodically.
Students will sanitize hands upon re-entry to the building/classroom.
There will be two clinic areas for nurse visits.
Covid symptoms
Non-Covid symptoms
School Nurses will be trained in identifying COVID like symptoms, will take temperatures and determine whether to send a student home as outlined by the State Board of Health
School Nurses have the authority to require that a student be tested for COVID before returning to school.
Students identified with a fever (COVID suspected or not) will need to be fever free at home for 72 without use of meds.
Masks will be worn by students during dismissal.
Separate dismissal doors will be used for K-1, 2-3, and 4-5 students. Siblings use the same dismissal door as youngest sibling.
Students will be in single file lines as they walk to dismissal locations.
Visitors’ access to the school will be limited only to essential business.
The majority of visitors’ business will be conducted outside or in the vestibule.
Any time a visitor enters the building, a mask will be required.
Since water fountains are considered high-touch areas, fountains will be shut down with the pandemic is active. Students should bring water from home.
Students will be allowed to carry water bottles with them during the day.
Parents will label their child's water bottle.
Students will wear masks when using the restroom.
When possible, restroom breaks will be scheduled to limit traffic in restrooms. However, students will be able to go when needed.
Safety drills (Fire, Severe Weather, and Lockdown) are required by Indiana law (IC 20-34-3-20). As a result, Solon Robinson will continue to prepare and drill for potential emergencies.
All drills will be planned and announced to our students and staff before the alarm goes off. To balance the need to plan and prepare for emergencies with being socially distant and avoiding crowds, drills will be performed in "waves" or "slowed down" with limited participants at one time.
Families of students who receive special education services and supports may have unique questions and concerns regarding their child.
Please contact your child’s Teacher of Record or the Exceptional Learners Department with specific questions.
