AP DRAWING AND PAINTING

Unlike previous art and drawing courses, AP has a lower emphasis on teacher-directed skill building, and a higher emphasis on student-directed, meaningful art making. You will still be taught many new advanced techniques. However, you will now be held accountable to apply those techniques to make substantive artwork that pushes your conceptual and visual tastes to a collegiate level.

The outcome of this course is the development of your college-ready portfolio of art. This portfolio will demonstrate a unique style, meaningful ideas, and a mastery of media. AP students submit the portfolio for college credit. All students will make their portfolio accessible to others via a digital platform.

Regardless of your previous artistic experience, you will learn to demonstrate a range of artistic behaviors that go far beyond just drawing skills. We will work as a studio community to engage in all aspects of the creative process. You must arrive every day with an active mind, and a critical eye. You will engage parts of your brain that you may not have used before. You cannot learn to master drawing without deep concentration and critical thinking.
