Taft's Shakespeare Slam team owned their voices on the mainstage at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre at Navy Pier, in the final bout of CST's Shakespeare Slam 2023! Shakespeare Slam is part celebration, part poetry slam, and part theatre festival. Team Taft went up against nine other schools from across the city and suburbs, and shared two scenes based in the Bard's works, with our own special twist.
In the competition, each school created two scenes -- the "scene round" (where we perform a scene from a Shakespeare play, as written) and the "dream round" (where we combine any words from Romeo & Juliet with any words from any other published text, in whatever order we create, to make a brand new story). Our second text for the dream round this year was Barbie: The Movie.
Please join us to congratulate our team's eight performers (Gabi Bagley, Sarah Benmouffok, James Cisek, Matthew "Gibby" Gibson-Pometta, Rosalia Locascio, Orion Miller, Alexis Panousopoulos, and Oliver Vicens) and two peer coaches (Zuzanna Mendus and Leo Muan), plus Anakin Morris and Darren Tuggle as teacher coaches when you see them!

Have you ever wanted to take part in a criminal/civil trial?
If you answered yes then Mock Trial Club is perfect for you!
Every Monday from 3:15 to 4:00, in Room 339, we work on a case that has been previously selected by members of the group. We work on a new case every couple of weeks, depending on how long the case is, and hold a trial at the end. We spend time working on our roles such as defense attorney, prosecutor, and witnesses. We then each put together a solid case based on our role which we then put to use in the trial. Members from each side work together to improve their case for trial day and overall, is a fun and interesting experience!
First meeting is Monday!
