The Porter and Cook positions are the only positions that NSS is currently hiring for.
Here is a brief job description of both positions:
Porter: The duties primarily consist of heavy lifting from 20-50 lbs, dishwashing, emptying trash, stock rotation, sweeping, mopping, and food prep, and more. A Food Handler's License is required for this position. This position starts at $18.42* per hour.
Cook: Responsibilities include preparing food to maximize freshness and minimize waste, and food prep duties (thawing, washing, cooking, chopping, and slicing food). Completing and maintaining temperature check logs, checking stock levels, cleaning and sanitizing workstations, assisting the manager with ordering and maintaining the appropriate food supply, and attending meetings and workshops, etc. This position requires one year of work experience and a valid Chicago Department of Health Certified Food Service Manager Certificate. This position starts at $18.42* per hour.
****All lunchroom employees must demonstrate the ability to lift or exert a force of 25-50 lbs., stand for extended periods, perform tasks such as stooping, crouching, climbing, bending, reaching, and handling objects using little to no accommodations. Additionally, they should be adept at working in environments that may include extreme temperatures.****

Food Handler Certification and CDPH Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification:
As required by the City of Chicago, all food establishments must have a person certified in Food Service Sanitation. All certifications must be posted in the kitchen or kept on the person at all times.

To obtain a CDPH Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate, you must attend and pass an approved course. A list of approved training providers is available at the following link:
If you have a valid American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification, you may be able to apply for reciprocity to obtain the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Foodservice Sanitation certificate.
