One quarter of the school year will be dedicated to Driver Education. All students will be provided 30 hours of classroom instruction in preparation to moving on to receiving his/her/their permit and Behind-the-wheel instruction at a Range Facility. Students must pass and receive 30 hours of classroom instruction prior to registering for Range.
The goal of Driver Education is to provide students the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for vehicle safety as a driver and as a pedestrian. Driver education will help learn the laws that will keep the driver safe on the road.
Driver Education is required by law before any student is issued a drivers license. Students will be able to:
Identify and demonstrate rules and procedures of operating a motor vehicle
Develop the essential decision-making skills while concerning risk while driving.
Apply traffic laws and the Rules of the Road to various roadway situations and conditions.
Describe the legal and moral responsibilities for a person involved in a traffic accident situation, the financial responsibility law and insurance coverage.
Demonstrate knowledge of D.U.I. laws to assure students make appropriate decisions in regard to the use of alcohol and other drugs before operating or riding in a motor vehicle.
Develop an understanding of basic car care.
Driver Education Attendance Requirement
STATE LAW mandates that students receive a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction for Driver Education. If a student does not meet this requirement, they will fail the class. There is no such thing as excused/unexcused absences for Driver’s Ed. They are all treated the same. There are no excuses for your attendance, you MUST BE PRESENT IN CLASS TO PASS!
