Hello! I am Mr. Baron, the EL and SEL teacher at Skinner West. This is my fourth year at Skinner, and I'm delighted to be part of the Superstar community.
EL means English Learner. There are nearly 20 different languages spoken by Skinner families, and many of our students speak these languages as well. Most of the time, I work with small groups of EL students in and outside of the general classroom setting to help enrich and accelerate their capacity to read, write, speak, and listen in effectively in English.
SEL means Social Emotional Learning. I am lucky to serve as the SEL teacher for all four 6th grade classes as well as one 1st grade classroom. I utilize materials that I've developed with the students to teach about how we engage with ourselves and the world around us.
For most of my classes, I use educational standards-aligned music that I wrote; these songs and materials to a vast number of students. I love to spark my students' interest in learning and in creating good relationships with one another.
Also, I help operate the school's Stewards of Skinner West clean-up program, and the Bilingual Advisory Committee, a group of parents who help support and celebrate the international community here at Skinner West.
My favorite things to do when I'm not at Skinner are: traveling, eating in new restaurants, visiting my friends and family, writing and performing music, riding my bike, jogging or going to a yoga class.
If you see me around school, please say hello, and I'll do the same!
