When I think about nature, the first thing I think of is how many parts of it are being endangered by humans. From this artwork I hope to remind everyone that plants, animals, humans alike coexist on the planet we call home, and that we are all part of nature, and are all equally important. In this artwork, I tried to combine techniques which I have used in the past, for example drawing patterns, and ones that were new, like trying to fit together different shapes to form a collective piece. I used pencil, color pencils, and a black marker for outlining. I started by sketching out the shape of Earth, and portioning out the continents into random shapes, which I later filled with sketches of different animals, leaves, and human silhouettes that best fit the shapes. To make my craftsmanship better, I used patterns to cover the oceans so that I will be able to use different shades of blue for coloring to make the colors seem less monotonous, and also made sure I pressed hard enough when coloring so that the colors come out evenly. While making this piece, I learned that it’s always good to try new things. And although my final work does not seem exactly like what I first imagined, I am still happy with it and will definitely continue to use the techniques I have learned from creating it in future artworks.
