Report Card Pick Up
We are looking forward to seeing all of you at Report Card Pick Up on November 15th. Building an effective home-school partnership is so important to student learning. Here are some ways you can help your children at home;
-Review your child’s homework each night, even if they are in the older grades
-Sign up for Parent Portal so you always know how your child is performing in class
-Reach out to teachers if you have any concerns
-Assist your child in setting goals for the rest of the year
As the season changes, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. We will be going out for recess every day unless it is raining or extremely cold (below 20 degrees). When the cold weather hits, please make sure your child comes prepared with hats, gloves, etc., to keep them comfortable while playing outside!
After School Sports
Miss Barnhart and Mr. Knoeckl will be running an after school sports program for our students in grades 5-8. Be on the lookout for information coming home.
Student Council Food Drive
Our student council is sponsoring a Food Drive to benefit the St. Cornelius food pantry. Fliers going home this week!
Girls on the Run
Congratulations and good luck to our Girls on the Run teams who will be running their 5K on Saturday, November 18th downtown.
It is crucial to your child’s education you make every effort to ensure your child gets to school on time, every day. When students are absent frequently, they miss valuable classroom instruction, often have a hard time catching up and their grades suffer. Research shows that students who miss even 2 days per month are more likely to have lower test scores and not graduate from high school. Please make every effort to ensure that your child is in school on time each day! Thank you for your support!
If your child is ill and needs to stay home, please call the office at 773-534-3536. Be sure to send a written note when your child returns. Example notes can be printed off of the website and used as well.
Sexual Health Classes
In the coming weeks your child will receive Sexual Health Education as part of the CPS Sexual Health Education Policy. Depending on your child’s grade level, topics for K-3 may include:
- Public vs. Private
- Keeping The Body Healthy
- Healthy Relationships
Topics for 4-8 may include:
- Personal Safety
- Human Reproduction and Childbirth
- HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
- Contraception and Pregnancy Prevention
- Healthy Relationships
- Decision Making
You are welcome to contact Laura Barnhart or James Knoeckl at emails email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or the school number 773-534-3535. We can share the lessons and information we’ll be teaching your student. You can also check http://cps.edu/oshw/Pages/HealthEducation.aspx for detailed scope and sequence of topics.
The Board acknowledges that parents/guardians are the primary sexuality educators for their child/children and Farnsworth is committed to partnering with parents/guardians to provide supplementary instruction to students via the sexual health education lessons.
In alignment with Illinois State Code 105 ILCS 110/3 (No pupil shall be required to take or participate in any class or course on AIDS or family life instruction if his parent or guardian submits written objection thereto, and refusal to take or participate in the course or program shall not be reason for suspension or expulsion of the pupil), parent/guardians must provide a timely written objection opting their child/children out from participating in any CPS Sexual Health Education course. No student shall be suspended or expelled for refusal to participate in any such course with submitted objection. Your child’s participation in this worthwhile unit of study is voluntary.
