This course is about learning the people, ideas, and forces that have shaped the world, and enable students to investigate their place in, and ability to act in, an increasingly interdependent global society. Students will investigate major historical themes through the context of current global issues and build an understanding of the cultural, institutional, economic, and technological patterns that have set the human stage. Through exploration and inquiry students will be required to consider multiple perspectives and evaluate many past and present issues from the viewpoints of the powerful and the powerless, first and third world countries, diverse and homogenous populations, etc. Students will engage in active discussions about the causes and impacts of major global issues and debate solutions to these issues. Students will develop an understanding of the impact they are able to make in their community and in the world.
