(R. Drabek)
I was born and raised in Western Nebraska. I believe I always thought I'd be a teacher, but I never knew what a rewarding and challenging career it would be. I studied at Nebraska Wesleyan where I had the opportunity to travel to New Zealand to complete my student teaching. My first teaching job was in a rural community on the Eastern Plains of Colorado. Next, I ventured into the Peace Corps where I served for two years on a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean where I also taught English and Math. After my time in the Peace Corps I ended back in my hometown of Kimball, Nebraska where I was able to teach and coach alongside with some that had taught me and were my mentors. In another two years, I was married and off to Cozad, Nebraska where I really feel like I grew as a professional. I was finally comfortable to be challenged and to challenge others, but most importantly I learned the value of reflection. I finished my Masters in Mathematics Education and became a leader in the district. Nine years later, my husband completed his school administration degree and for three years, we moved our two young children to Bridgeport Nebraska, where he became the 7-12 principal and I taught Science and Math. We are happy to be back in Cozad to work and raise our kids in this amazing community. #LifelongHaymakers.
