History

The Culinary Arts program began in September of 1978 and continues to be a very popular program. It is a three year program made up of students from Coventry, North Kingstown, and Exeter/West Greenwich High School students. Students receive instruction and practical experience in cooking, baking, and dining service. Our culinary students prepare, cook, and serve the patrons of our restaurant “The Knotty Oak Room”, located at Coventry High School. Many of our students former and present work in some of the finest restaurants in Rhode Island. A high percentage of our students go on to Post Secondary Education at some of the best known Culinary Schools in the country. The restaurant is usually open Wednesday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. Tipping is graciously accepted, proceeds support the program. The Culinary Program is certified by the prestigious American Culinary Federation. Most recently our program has adopted the National Restaurant Associations ProStart certification program. Offering culinary techniques to management skills. ProStart is an industry-driven curriculum that provides real-life experience opportunities. The program builds practical skills and a foundation that will last a lifetime. We are proud of our students and our program.
