We had a wonderful week in 3rd grade! In ELA, we discussed Chapters 1 and 2 of Ways to Make Sunshine and practiced vocabulary from the first two chapters. Students also dove into work with adjectives and created colorful adjective sprinkles for the cupcake on our classroom wall. In Math, as part of our addition and subtraction unit, students worked on an exciting “If I Had $100…” shopping project, practicing budgeting skills by setting aside $15 for savings and spending the rest on items that interested them—so many creative choices! In Science, we wrapped up our Mystery Science lesson by analyzing dinosaur fossil data to uncover evidence about what these dinosaurs looked like and how they behaved when they were alive. We ended the week with lots of joy during our Combo Crew Hot Chocolate Party, celebrating with our community and wellness buddies.
ELA
This week in ELA, students wrapped up their Holes unit by taking the final test and reflecting on key themes from the novel. We also began drafting our compare-and-contrast essays, focusing on organizing ideas comparing the book to the film. To build spelling skills, students enjoyed a hands-on activity using a Jenga tower—each block pulled came with a spelling challenge!
Math
In Math, we launched into 3-by-1 multiplication and practiced breaking down multi-step problems with confidence. Students also played a lively round of Juju’s Curse covering all the major concepts we’ve learned so far this trimester.
Science
Our Science lessons focused on erosion this week. Students conducted a hands-on investigation using sugar cubes to model how natural forces wear down rock over time. They observed and documented how the edges changed with repeated “weathering,” gaining a clearer understanding of how landscapes form and transform.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we explored indigenous tribes from various regions around the world. Students visited the Whose Land Am I On? website to learn about the background of the land where we live today, helping build awareness and appreciation for Indigenous histories and communities.
Our pirate game has been postponed! It will now be on
Friday, December 5th, 2025 .
We’ll be playing the ultimate round of Juju’s Curse, reviewing all the math we’ve learned so far.
So grab your hat and dress like a pirate — adventure awaits!
