ELA:
This week in ELA, students created heartfelt Valentine’s Day dialogue projects, practicing the use of quotations and speaker tags. We also continued reading Ways to Make Sunshine and completed a postcard writing activity to Ryan, offering support and encouragement based on events from the story.
Math:
In Math, we deepened our understanding of multiplication and connected it to division by working with fact families. We are now officially launching into our division unit! The students also got introduced to calculating the area of a rectangle through a hands-on task to calculate the area of our classroom using only rulers and yardsticks.
Social Studies:
In Social Studies, we continued learning about guide dogs and the important impact they have on their people. We were especially excited to welcome Guide Dogs of America into our classroom on Tuesday for a lovely and meaningful visitation.
Science:
In Science, students participated in a fun and engaging obstacle course activity on the Dream Court. One partner was blindfolded while the other acted as their guide, helping them safely navigate the course. This hands-on experience helped students better understand the role of guide dogs and the trust and communication involved.
ELA:
This week in ELA, the 4th grade class began our reading of "S.T.E.A.M. Chasers" by Doresa Jennings. We practiced spelling using a game of Red Light, Green Light. Students also worked on a creative writing prompt, “You’re stuck in line at Disneyland with the characters from your favorite TV show,” and focused on adding clear details and imaginative ideas to their writing. In addition, we reviewed commonly mixed-up homophones such as they’re/there/their, its/it’s, to/too/two, and your/you’re, with practice using each one correctly in sentences.
Math:
In math, we began our unit on fractions by learning about numerators and denominators and how they show equal parts of a whole. Students practiced identifying and creating fractions through a game called “Fraction Farm,” where solving fraction problems helped them build and grow their own farms.
