ELA
In ELA, 3rd Graders worked on journaling, spelling, continued reading Ways to Make Sunshine, and practiced statements and commands.
Math
In Math, we continued our multiplication unit through a mix of teacher-directed centers and independent practice. Students used technology to build and slice arrays and explored how the distributive property helps break apart multiplication problems. We finished the week with task card centers, giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in a hands-on and engaging way.
Science
In Science, we learned about inherited traits by studying dogs and pigeons. Through our Pigeon Pairings activity, students compared traits between parent and baby pigeons to see how traits are passed down. This helped students understand how differences in traits can explain why animals, especially certain breeds, can look so different from one another.
ELA
In ELA, we kicked off our next full novel study in preparation for Black History Month: The Steam Chasers by Doresa Jennings! Fourth graders also practiced their spelling words by playing a fun game of Spelling Mario Kart. Additionally, students learned about past, present, and future tense verbs. In writing, students continued working on persuasive essays, responding to the prompt: “Should pets be allowed at school?”
Math
In math, we continued practicing long division using either the standard "old school" method or the box method. During centers, students practiced their skills by participating in a game of Long Division Bingo.
Science
In science, students explored different forms of energy by working together to build a class roller coaster. Each student used a marble to test if our rollercoaster was safe for riders.
The Combo Crew has been exploring lessons that connect both the Community pillar and the Self-Curiosity pillar. This week, Teacher Jaleesa introduced a thoughtful activity where students created a “How to Be Friends With Me” brochure. The brochure included sections such as Likes and Dislikes, My Boundaries, How to Help Me, and Things I’m Proud Of, encouraging students to reflect on themselves in order to understand how to connect with others.
