Dodgers Den Week Overview:
It was an engaging week in 3rd grade as students continued to grow as thinkers and collaborators while beginning preparations for Open House! While some projects remain a surprise, students have been applying their learning in creative and meaningful ways. A highlight was our science presentations, where students confidently shared their planet research as experts. We’re proud of their creativity, effort, and excitement for learning!
Please get a glimpse inside the classroom and some exciting moments from the week below!
**I've included a new equivalent fractions math resource with visual models that can be accessed digitally. The link is provided under math resources below.
Curriculum Snapshot:
We kicked off some exciting, curriculum-based projects this week as we begin preparing for Open House… but we’re keeping the details a bit of a mystery for now! We can share that our learning is connecting to the real world in meaningful ways—fractions are all around us… maybe even right here on our TCS Dream Court! Students have also been hard at work on a hands-on area and perimeter project that is sure to showcase both their creativity and growing math skills.
Curriculum Snapshot:
Our students continued to shine as writers this week, crafting yet another original poem—be on the lookout for these to be proudly displayed in the classroom soon! We also explored similes and metaphors, learning how these tools can bring writing to life in vivid and imaginative ways. In reading, we are enjoying both Ways to Grow Love and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, engaging in thoughtful discussions and making predictions about what might happen next. A highlight this week was tasting pickles while exploring their significance in Chapter 4 of Ways to Grow Love—a fun and memorable way to deepen comprehension!
Solar System Presentations!
Curriculum Snapshot:
In science, students wrapped up their planet research and used their mini books and collected research to create posters. They then presented their work to the class, stepping into the role of “planet experts” and confidently teaching their peers about their chosen planet. We’re excited to continue our solar system unit as we look ahead to Open House!
Curriculum Snapshot:
During our 4 Pillars of Wellbeing time, students have been learning how to become “self-scientists,” meaning they observe, reflect on, and learn about their own thoughts, feelings, and reactions. As part of this work, students are engaging in a “My Curious Mind” activity, where they are identifying the things in their lives they are curious about. Through discussions and activities, students are practicing noticing how they feel in different situations. It has been wonderful to see them thoughtfully exploring how they can better understand themselves.
WEEKLY LEARNING SNAPSHOT
While TCS doesn't assign homework, many parents have requested at-home resources to support skill-building. We're happy to provide materials to help your child practice!
