We had another wonderful and productive week in the Dodgers Den! Students continued to show curiosity, creativity, and perseverance as we worked through new learning in each subject. From beginning the writing process for our seasonal writing pieces to building fraction burgers in math, there were many moments of excitement and discovery. Students also enjoyed putting their detective skills to work during our Women’s History Month scavenger hunt. It has been great to see students collaborating, thinking critically, and celebrating learning together!
Curriculum Snapshot:
In math, we began each math block with a daily multi-step word problem to strengthen students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students were reminded to show all of their work and clearly label their answers.
We also introduced the concept of fractions using hands-on manipulatives. Students had a lot of fun building burgers with fraction pieces while learning how fractions represent parts of a whole! As we continue the unit, students will begin exploring comparing fractions and equivalent fractions.
Students also continued practicing division and using different strategies to solve equations.

This week in Language Arts, we focused on the writing process. Students began working on a writing piece about their favorite season. We started with a brainstorm, where students worked to get all of their ideas down on paper. Next, they organized their ideas into a graphic organizer to help structure their thoughts. From there, students began writing their rough drafts, making sure to add details and expand their sentences.
Our next steps will include peer editing and teacher editing, followed by writing our final drafts.
Students also continued reading our class novel, Ways to Make Sunshine. We are now on the final chapter, and students are excited to see how the story concludes!
Women's History Month Scavenger Hunt!
Curriculum Snapshot:
To celebrate Women’s History Month, students participated in a Women’s History Month Scavenger Hunt around campus. Facts about influential women were hidden in different locations, and students were tasked with finding them and recording what they learned.
Students had a great time playing detective while discovering the important contributions women have made throughout history. Many of the women featured connected to topics we explored during Black History Month, helping students continue building their understanding of impactful historical figures.
Note: Families are welcome to take their children home after the Diversity and Equity Fair concludes.

Curriculum Snapshot:
During our 4 Pillars of Wellbeing time, Matt has been leading the students in a lesson focused on self-curiosity. Students have been learning how to become “self-scientists,” meaning they observe, reflect on, and learn about their own thoughts, feelings, and reactions. Through discussions and activities, students are practicing noticing how they feel in different situations. It has been wonderful to see students thoughtfully exploring how they can better understand themselves.
